Chx in NYC / NEED Drupal Developers

This past week I had to opportunity to sit in on a Drupal NYC group meeting. We were honored to have Károly Négyesi (aka chx) do a presentation for us about the future of Drupal releases.

I won't be able to do the presentation justice, but I will highlight a few points that I found to be interesting.

Drupal 6 issue queue had no issues in it during the meeting, this means the final release will be out very soon. Till then you can enjoy the RC2 release.

Progression with Drupal in NYC

Over the past couple of months my personal life and Drupal have progressed at such a rate that even I am having a hard time keeping up with it all. For those of you that do not know, I recently changed jobs to become a Drupal developer at Sony BMG.

Drupal is *NOT* becoming money hungry.

Drupal Money Hungry

Not all of my comments in this article still stand. I realized this after becoming more involved with the Drupal community.

If you ask anyone that knows me well about how I feel about Drupal then they will tell you that I'm obsessed with it. My fervor to Drupal is the equivalent to outwardly passionate Christians to the Bible. I find very little negative to say about it and I take the time to point out the faults in other Content Management Systems. Now I will admit that Drupal is not for the faint of heart. If you are only looking to write a blog then go get WordPress.

Content Management System

Content Management SystemPurpose of a content management system.
Back in the early days of the world wide web (WWW) people built each page of their site using basic HTML. When a html page was complete the user would have to log onto their FTP server and upload all the files necessary for that page to display correctly. This was very cumbersome and time consuming. As years progressed and the internet became more mature with programming languages such as PHP, Javascript, ASP, and the newer Ruby on Rails, web developers realized there were much simpler ways to create a content rich web site without having to know complex programming langauges. Thus the birth of the Content Management System (CMS).

Drupal Sliding Menus

Drupal Slide MenusI am really excited about the new Drupal 5 release. I just got it installed today and noticed that the module page had slide down.

That got me thinking, so I viewed source and saw a couple of javascripts. I knew if I was going to get this done I would need something to generate the entire menu. Thanks to previous experience with Drupal I knew of a module called Nice Menus that did exactly what I was looking for.
